Job Satisfaction …

Today again a few colleagues sat down to crib about work…talking about the existing, bitter dissatisfaction….my thoughts not very different from this known trend in my circle….

The possible reason….

Life has two constituents … personal and professional…. They are closely related status and success of one affecting other…
But now a day’s most of us…stay away from families to pursue careers …and consequently they expect the professional life to be doubly rewarding to make up for the non existence of the personal life…

Also today’s careers leave little time for recreation … someone may drive pleasure out of cooking, some pursuing sports, some reading others writing…but today most people work round the clock to accelerate their career progress…so any pleasure, excitement and exuberance is expected from jobs

May be this is over simplification of things…but I still believe we want too much from this mundane act of earning livelihood. …

I think the problem is related to having made a career choice even before clearly understanding what is it that we really have liked all our lives...my guess is that not more than 5% in Indian software industry are there because they like what they do...95% are there because of social pressure, lure for money etc..

In such a scenario, dissatisfaction definitely will exist.

Staying away from home is another problem...it does create a vacuum in the personal life...people should make a conscious decision to not work more than 9 hrs a day...and the organization should encourage and reward it...

It is the lack of social life that causes boredom and frustration in the lives of people...this is true of us in both India and in US...

In US too, Indians do not *know* how to have a great social life there, with such an encouraging ambience around...this is because they have not had the habit of taking their own time out everyday, introspecting to find out what is it that they like and then doing that day in and day out...

Even in the choicest career, there will be disappointment..I think it could be because we want to like what we do not have...so pursuing parallel trakcs of interest may be helpful...

Cheers
Vara.
